The environment is an integral part of this series. The majority of my work is composed with a prominent skyline. While the people represented in my paintings are from direct observation, my skies are mercurial in that they do not correspond to the environment in which the people exist. This contradiction lends itself to the reality that we, as a people, cannot control our environment.
My goal with the Coney Island Series is to create a sense of nostalgia for the viewer. I want to bring places to people, allowing viewers to make a connection not only to the work, but also to the environment.
